Cairo
Kills! I know, everyone who's ever been to Cairo knows that "Cairo
Kills". From your first step into Cairo's main gate to the moments you
lose yourself in the wide streets, high bridges, dark tunnels and shinning
advertisings. The air kills, the traffic jams kills, the view kills and the
people also, basically everything in Cairo kills. Whether you're a resident or
just passing by, you'll –somehow- feel that you're being murdered.
Alexandria
kills too, but it kills softly and gently in a way that doesn't make you notice
you're dying, it kills you with the hands of an artist. Alexandria fools you
with its fake vanishing beauty, makes you believe that it's better here, better
than Cairo. Guess what; it's not! Alexandria still have polluted air, traffic
jams, broken bridges, drowned tunnels, deserted lands and evil people however
she keeps wearing the mask of the cosmopolitan civilization that isn't actually
true nowadays.
Alexandria
has been symbolized in the very small area of the downtown and the nostalgic
feelings for the past neglecting the whole urban city and the other inhabited
areas on the borders. Alexandria is being viewed in a very narrow scope that is
nor realistic nor logical, it is viewed within the same ideology that makes
Egyptians think that Egypt is Om El Donia and Ad El Donia, the Egyptian children
are the smartest and Alexandria is the bride of the Mediterranean.
Civilization
crisis exists in both Cairo and Alexandria, with different rates of course but
it still exists. The main difference is that Alexandria tries to hide its
crisis but Cairo doesn't, Cairo is ugly and she doesn't deny it however
Alexandria is like a nearly dead actress who wears all the makeup she can in a pathetic
trial to prove she's still beautiful but she looks uglier than ever.
Alexandria
is lying to you, but Cairo is the naked truth that you have to accept. I prefer
an ugly face than a beautiful fake one. I prefer knowing the truth and handling
it than postponing the confession of failure. I prefer seeing/ recognizing
the real ugly face of my murderer, I prefer Cairo.
